Kangana Ranaut’s biopic on Rani Lakshmibai will now be directed by Krish, and has been titled Manikarnika. The period genre is not new for Krish, who last directed Balakrishna in Gautamiputra Satakarni.

The film was originally announced as a Ketan Mehta directorial, but changed hands due to creative differences between Mehta and Ranaut, according to reports.
Apparently, Mehta wanted to make the film in English, something Ranaut did not agree with. Thus, eventually the team decided to hand over the biopic to a different studio or director.
Manikarnika will go on the floors on 23 March. The date has been chosen to coincide with Ranaut’s 30th birthday.
KV Vijayendra Prasad has reportedly penned the script for the film.
