The Hindi remake of Kanchana 2 will go on floors on April 21, soon after the worldwide release of the third installment of Kanchana 3, on April 19. The remake stars Akshay Kumar, Kiara Advani, and also Amitabh Bachchan, a source close to the film confirmed to Silverscreen.

As reported earlier, the movie will be directed by Raghava Lawrence again, but with a few changes. “It’s not a straight remake, the basic premise will draw references from two films, Muni and Kanchana, so it’s more like two films clubbed in one to create double the impact. The team has been working on the script for over six months and has added several new dimensions to the original film,” a source had said.

Kiara Advani will reportedly play Akshay Kumar’s girlfriend in the film. Amitbh Bachchan’s role is yet to be confirmed. The movie is being planned as a revenge drama like the original Kanchana 2, with Akshay Kumar as a man who encounters a ghost, and that forms the crux of the story. The film is scheduled for a 2020 release, and some reports say that Laxmi is the title being considered.

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that the fourth installment of the Muni series, Kanchana 3, will be dubbed in Kannada, and release simultaneously with the Tamil and Telugu versions this month.

The film’s trailer released recently, and featured Lawrence as an older, grey-haired man in this film. During the audio launch event which happened last Sunday, Lawrence said, “When I made the first part, I never thought there would be fourth part. The film has received that much support. And the reason for its success is also the film’s team which includes Kovai Sarala, Sreeman and Devadarshini.”

The three actors were featured in the previous Kanchana films too. Lawrence said he was glad that Soori and Oviya came on board for Kanchana 3. Vedhika also plays an important part in the film. Sathyaraj, Kabir Duhan Singh, Manobala, Yogi Babu, Nikki Tamboli are part of the cast.

Five musicians have worked to compose for the fourth installment. Lawrence said he was thankful to Madhan Karky for bringing them on board. Lawrence is currently busy with the process of acquiring a censor certificate for Kanchana 3.
