Kamal Haasan’s Drishyam Remake from August

The Tamil remake of Drishyam, starring Kamal Haasan, will go on the floors the first week of August. The pooja for the movie, a remake of the popular Malayalam film Drishyam, happened in Chennai recently.

The actor’s office came up with a skeleton crew list on Friday. The original film’s maker, Jeethu Joseph, will be in charge of the story, screenplay and direction, Popular writer Jayamohan pens the dialogues. Sujith Vasudevan will handle the camera, with Ayoob Khan editing the film.  Composer Ghibran will once again team up with Kamal Haasan after Uthama Villain and Vishwaroopam-2. He will set music to Na. Muthukumar’s lyrics. Rembon will be the art director.

Suresh Balajee, George Pius of Wide Angle Creations and Rajkumar Sethupathy and actress Sripriya of Raj Kumar Theatres Private Limited will jointly fund the project. Other cast and crew details have not been finalised. This includes the lead actress, a role originally played by Meena in Malayalam.

The Malayalam original Drishyam, which had Mohanlal and Meena in lead roles, was a critically acclaimed film that also met with box office success. The movie has already been already been remade into Telugu and Kannada. Talks are on for a Hindi remake as well.

Meanwhile Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor owns the rights for Japanese author Keigo Higashino’s book, The Devotion Of Suspect X, which is said to have served as an inspiration for Drishyam. Director Jeethu has already rubbished the allegations, while Ekta’s legal team is still studying the film.

Kamal Haasan’s Uthama Villain is now nearing completion with a major part of the film already canned. Ramesh Aravind, the film’s director has revealed on Twitter today that the dubbing work is currently underway.
