Arvind Kejriwal To Attend Kamal Haasan’s Party Launch In Madurai Tomorrow

Several politicians are likely to attend actor and aspiring politician Kamal Haasan’s political party launch in Madurai tomorrow. So far, it has been confirmed that Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party’s leader Arvind Kejriwal will be attending the event.

Few months before confirming his foray into politics, Haasan and Kejriwal had a meeting in September last year at Haasan’s Eldam’s Road residence. The meeting, as Haasan said, was more of a “learning curve” for him as he recognised that the two have a common aim – to fight corruption.

While Kejriwal is the only politician so far to have confirmed his attendance for the launch, there are speculations that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Kerala CM Pinrayi Vijayan, and Bihar’s CM Nitish Kumar may attend too.

For the event, Haasan has given it all, paying several courtesy visits to leaders and inviting them for the launch. On Sunday, he met actor and another aspiring politician Rajinikanth at his Poes Garden residence. That same evening, Haasan met DMK supremo, M Karunanidhi, and working president of DMK, MK Stalin, at their Gopalapuram residence. On Monday, he met DMDK Chief Vijayakanth at the party office.

Latest reports show that the actor also meet Naam Tamizhar’s party leader Seeman this morning at Haasan’s residence.

While Haasan has made several visits to eminent political figures in the city in the last few days, he has, however, not paid a visit to either the BJP or AIADMK party members. On not meeting the latter, the actor was quoted as saying: “I’ve been saying that the state is poorly governed. Why would I meet AIADMK leaders?”

Ever since the death of former CM J Jayalalithaa, Haasan has been critical of what the party has been indulging in since the beginning of 2017, blaming them for the rampant corruption in the state.

He has also been critical of the presence of ‘saffron hue’ in Tamil Nadu and has had public spats with members of the BJP, including H Raja and Tamilisai Soundararajan.

Kamal Haasan will officially begin his political tour tomorrow, beginning at his birthplace Ramanathapuram. He had earlier said that his tour is being planned in ‘phases’, and that there will be many tours in the future. He will also announce the name of his party during his tour. Haasan plans on meeting and spending time with people in the districts of Madurai, Dindigul and Sivagangai. He has invited the public to join him at Madurai’s Othakkadai, where he will speak about the essence of his party.
