There was a lot of debate surrounding the lead female role in the movie. Earlier, it was reported that it was unlikely that Kajal would sign up for the project. A source from the unit told IANS that “Although Kajal is one of the actresses under consideration, the makers haven’t signed her on yet”. The report also added that since she recently signed up for Ajith’s movie, the actress might not be able to accommodate this project. However, the actress has been confirmed for the role.

The movie, which has been trending on social media as #Chiru150 ever since its official announcement, is Chiranjeevi’s comeback film after a gap of nine years. The movie went on the floors last month and is expected to be released later this year. Directed by V V Vinayak, the film has composer Devi Sri Prasad, cinematographer Rathnavel and art director Thota Tharani as part of the film.

Recently, the movie was in the news for a public spat with Telugu writer Chinni Krishna and veteran director A Kodandarami Reddy. Expressing his disapproval over Chiranjeevi’s choice, Chinni Krishna said that Chiru150 lacked originality and was just a mere ‘xerox copy’ of the Tamil film. On the other hand, the veteran director opined that the actor should have opted for a comedy instead of remaking Kaththi which is message-oriented and a very dry subject.

Kathilantodu will be jointly bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Chiranjeevi’s son Ram Charan.

Meanwhile, actress Kajal Aggarwal has been roped in for a cameo appearance in the Junior NTR-starrer, Janatha Garage. The actress will also be seen alongside actor Jiiva in her upcoming Tamil movie Kavalai Vendam.
