Kalaipuli S Thanu has registered the title Kabali 2, paving the way for a sequel to the hit film starring Superstar Rajinikanth. We know that Director Pa Ranjith is very willing to do another film with Kabaleeshwaran as the hero.
Kabali even had an open ended climax, leaving fans and critics speculating about the possibility of a sequel. The film would require Superstar, the film’s lead, as well as Pa Ranjith. Both have already been signed up for a project with Dhanush K Raja’s Wunderbar Studios.
In an interview with Silverscreen, Thanu’s spokesperson said: “Registering film titles is just a pre-emptive measure. This does not mean that the project will start anytime soon.” Rajinikanth’s manager also echoed similar sentiments. “Superstar is busy with 2.o. After this, he will start work on Dhanush’s movie with Pa Ranjith. At this point, nothing has been finalised on the Kabali 2 front.”

Interestingly, the new Rajinikanth – Pa Ranjith film announcement was accompanied by a teaser that had the Neruppuda song as its BGM. This led to reports that the film might be Kabali 2. Both Thanu and Rajinikanth’s spokesperson declined to comment on these reports.
Kabali released earlier this year and went on to be very successful at the box office. According to reports, the film made over Rs 6oo Crore worldwide. The film’s budget was reportedly around Rs 75 Crores.
