‘Kaaka Muttai’ Director Manikandan Wins K. Balachander Award

Director Manikandan has been awarded the Balachander award in the ‘Cinema’ category, and will receive the award today. His film, Kaaka Muttai, released last month to appreciation from audiences as well as critics.

In memory of the Iyakkunar Sigaram, the K Balachander foundation will be inaugurated on the day of his birth, July 9, by his close friend and student Kamal Haasan. Artists from theatre, cinema and television will be felicitated for their artistic and technical achievements.

Kaakka Muttai, was made on a budget of Rs 80 lakhs, but earned Rs 20 crores, making it one of the most profitable films of the year. The movie has music composed by GV Prakash, and features child artists Ramesh and Vignesh, along with actress Aishwarya Rajesh. The film won the National Awards for Best Children’s film and Best Child Artistes.
