Jeeva, the transgender actress who starred in Dharmadurai in 2016, has joined the cast of AR Murugadoss’ Darbar, starring Rajinikanth and Nayanthara. The film is currently in the second schedule of shoot in Mumbai.
Dharmadurai director Seenu Ramasamy recently shared a picture of Jeeva and Rajinikanth on Twitter and announced the news. He said, “I congratulate sister Jeeva who made her debut with Dharmadurai and was part of other films and also won awards, and has now joined Rajinikanth-starrer Darbar.”

The portrayal of Jeeva’s character in the Vijay Sethupathi-starrer was regressive. However, it was one of the few films that had a trans woman play the role of a trans person. Details about her role in Darbar are not known yet. Reports say that she plays an important character.
Meanwhile, cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh also recently joined the cast. He will be seen with Rajinikanth in the opening scene, which is an intense action sequence, a source told In.com.
Others in the cast include actor Prateik Babbar, who has just begun shooting his portions with Suniel Shetty, who reportedly playing the main antagonist, and Prakash Raj, Nivetha Thomas, Dalip Tahil, Yogi Babu, Soori and others in supporting roles.
The film is said to be a cop-drama starring Rajinikanth as an IPS officer. There is no confirmation yet if he plays a dual role. Anirudh Ravichander is the music composer, cinematography is by Santhosh Sivan and editing by Sreekar Prasad.
Reports say that 80 percent of the shoot for Darbar is complete and Rajini’s portions are likely to wrap up by mid-August. Post-production work will begin by September or October, and the film is likely to be ready before Pongal 2020, the scheduled release date. A report by IBT says the makers are considering three other release dates now – Diwali this year, Rajini’s birthday on December 12, and Christmas. Since Vijay and Nayanthara’s Atlee directorial Bigil will also release on Diwali, a December release for Darbar can be expected.
