Actor Isha Koppikar is back in Tamil cinema after nearly two decades, for director R Ravikumar’s upcoming science-fiction film starring Sivakarthikeyan and Rakul Preet Singh in the lead. She recently revealed that her role was a tough one with action-heavy sequences.
A source close to the film told Silverscreen that the film’s team will make official announcements soon. He also denied rumours about Isha Koppikar playing the lead. The shoot for the film began in July 2018, was resumed last month after being stalled because of Sivakarthikeyan’s other projects.
In an interview with The Hindu, Isha Koppikar said that director Ravikumar offered her the role after seeing her performances in the recent Telugu film Keshava and Kannada film Looty. Her character in the upcoming sci-fi is along the lines of Hollywood’s Lara Croft.
“I grew up admiring Bruce Lee, be it Enter the Dragon or Fist of Fury. Over a period of time, I realised that we don’t have heroines doing action here. Which is why I prefer doing tough characters,” she said.
In Tamil cinema, Isha was last seen with Vijayakanth in the 2001 film Narasimha, directed by Thirupathisamy. She began her career in the south in the 1990s, and acted in films like Kaadhal Kavithai and En Swasa Kaatre before moving to Bollywood.
She said that one of the reasons she signed up for the new Ravikumar film was because AR Rahman was on board to compose music for the film. Currently referred to as SK14, the film is being made on a big budget with technicians from Hollywood who are reportedly handling graphics and camera work. The cinematography is by Nirav Shah, and production is by RD Raja’s 24 AM Studios.

Sivakarthikeyan reportedly plays a farmer in the film, while Rakul Preet is a working woman. According to an article in The News Minute, the film is based on an alien invasion with an interesting story line, and the lead actors will be seen fighting off aliens. There has been no confirmation regarding this yet.
The film is expected to release in 2020.
