Rumours have been doing the rounds since late 2018 that Karthick Naren is to direct a film for Lyca. While it was said that Arvind Swami would be the lead, the lead actor’s name was later changed to Arun Vijay, who is on a high after Thadam.
But sources familiar with the negotiations say that nothing has been finalised as of yet. “Talks are still on and everything is still in the initial stage,” the source added.
Karthick, who burst in on the film scene in December 2016 with the taut Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (which became a sleeper hit), is awaiting the release of his sophomore project Naragasooran, starring Arvind Swami, Shriya Saran, Indrajith and Sundeep Kishan. The film was initially produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon, and the two fell out sometime in late 2017. Karthick broke his silence in March 2018 with a series of tweets. He said he had to speak because the team had run out of options.
The director had made his first film with the money his father had taken on loan; all profits were diverted to Naragasooran. The team also started work on a third film, Naadaga Medai, but could not proceed because “all funds were stuck in Naragasooran, explained the source. And so, Karthick is said to have moved on to other scripts.
As for Naragasooran, the release date of which is as yet unclear, it is said the team is awaiting certain clearances from Gautham Menon. The film, said to be a suspense drama, is expected to hit the screens soon after. Ron Ethan Yohann has composed music for Naragasooran while Sujith Sarang is the cinematographer. The trailer of the film was released last August.
Karthick is hopeful things will work out well, eventually, and that he would get to do what he loves best – make movies.
