Indrajith Sukumaran To Play MGR In Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Web Series Based On Jayalalithaa

With multiple adaptations of late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s life underway, Gautham Vasudev Menon is the latest filmmaker to join the bandwagon with his web-series that went on floors two months ago. While Ramya Krishnan will play the protagonist, reports suggest that Indrajith Sukumaran will essay the role of MGR.

Indrajith is best known to the Tamil audience for his performance in Vishnuvardhan’s Arya starrer Sarvam. He is also part of Karthick Naren’s upcoming thriller Naragasooran. Reports emerged late last year suggesting Indrajith’s involvement in the web series. The actor’s recent social media posts revealed that he is in Chennai working on the project.

According to reports, the director focusses on both the political and personal life of the late AIADMK chief. The series is 30 hours long, and the makers are paying approximately Rs 1.25 crore to the director for each episode. There are plans to rope in Ranjith and Vineeth in pivotal roles.

Meanwhile, Jayalalithaa’s biopic by director Priyadharshini will go on floors on February 24, 2019, on the politician’s birthday. Titled The Iron Lady, the film stars Nithya Menen in the title role. Talks are on to rope in Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as VK Sasikala. There has been no confirmation about this yet.

Directors AL Vijay, Bharathiraja and Lingusamy had earlier announced biopics on the late Chief Minister, and Adithya Bharadwaj and Dasari Narayana Rao suggested they may be directing films on Jayalalithaa’s life, but the status of those projects is unknown.
