Director Shankar’s Indian 2 will begin after Kamal Haasan finishes election work. The actor will also be shooting for the reality show Bigg Boss 3 simultaneously.
It was reported earlier that Indian 2 is likely to begin in June, but a source close to the film told Silverscreen that a schedule has not been planned yet. “Kamal sir has to finish election work, after which there will be a change in get-up. We have to do a make up test fifteen days ahead of shoot, and he will have to diet for a few days. As of now, starting in June is doubtful.”
Reports have said that the film is being planned for a Pongal 2021 release, but the source says nothing can be confirmed as yet.
Lyca Productions, who bankrolled director Shankar’s previous movie 2.0, announced Indian 2 in November on Kamal Haasan’s birthday last year. A first-look poster released this January, with actress Kajal Aggarwal joining the sets.

The original 1996 film featured Kamal Haasan in dual roles as a father and son. Written by Sujatha and directed by Shankar, the film told the story of a vigilante character Senapathy who is out to root out corruption from the system. Manisha Koirala, Urmila Matondkar, Sukanya also starred in important roles. The sequel will star Kajal Aggarwal as the female lead. She reportedly learnt Kalaripayattu to prepare for her part.
Lyca is also busy with shoot for AR Murugadoss’ Rajinikanth-starrer Darbar, the first schedule of which wrapped recently. The source also confirmed that the Darbar team will be returning to Mumbai for the second schedule, and not Chennai as reported earlier. “Set work is currently on in Mumbai and so the team is on a break,” the source said.
Meanwhile, director Shankar has reportedly begun work on his next film, also a big budget project that has been in the pipeline for many years. Jason Sanjay, actor Vijay’s son and Dhruv, actor Vikram’s son are likely to star in this film.
