‘Theeran Adhigaram Ondru Was Inspired By The Good Work That Cops Do,’ Says Director Vinoth

H Vinoth at Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru Press Meet

The Karthi-starrer, Theeran Adhigaram Ondru, which released today has been getting good reviews. Film’s director H Vinoth, whose debut film was Sathuranga Vettai, is being lauded for portraying a cop in a way that has been missing from Tamil cinema for some time.

Vinoth tells Silverscreen, “Every field has good and bad people, even the police department. I didn’t portray all the cops as good but focused on one good cop, something that is rarely featured in Tamil cinema. I met 20 to 25 police officers during my research and realised that the good work they do must be shown in films. During my meetings with them, many said that cops in Tamil cinema are portrayed as villains or in comic roles, a fact we cannot deny.”

Vinoth says that after Sathuranga Vettai, his second script was not about cops. “I wrote a script that revolves around a highway mechanic and in connection with that I started meeting cops for a research. Later, I was inspired by their stories and came up with Theeran Adhigaram Ondru,” he says.

“Cops are often crticised for lack of physical fitness. What we don’t know is that most of them deal with gastrointestinal issues for not eating on time. They skip meals due to their hectic work schedule and are stressed. Nobody becomes a cop for the salary, passion and commitment to the society drive them to this challenging job,” he adds.
