What will 30-year-old animated Lizzie McGuire (the witty, fun cartoon that ran around the screen saying sage-like things and generally being adorable) look like now? That’s among the first of the many questions we had when we heard that Hilary Duff will reprise her role as the iconic Disney character Lizzie McGuire. (The show ran between 2001 and 2004.)

SURPRISE!!! I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a loooong time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl ♥️…and into her 30’s #bringbackbutterflyclips #lizziemcguire #thisiswhatdreamsaremadeof #lizzieforpresident #DisneyPlus #D23Expo . . . . . . Also, If you needed yet another reason to get Disney+ ….the #lizziemcguiremovie will be living there!
Lizzy will be back as a 30-year-old living in New York, according to Duff, ‘with a bigger shoe budget’. The series turned Duff into a global teen icon. There was also The Lizze McGuire Movie that made 55 millions dollars worldwide. Most importantly, Duff and her animated self are part of the millennial childhood and teenage experience. Reactions from Twitter prove just how much this means to fans:
