In November last year, when the sexual misconduct charges against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein gained attention, Uma Thurman was asked about her opinion on it. Speaking to Access Hollywood, Thurman’s response had gone viral.

“I don’t have a tidy soundbite for you, because I’ve learned — I’m not a child, and I’ve learned that when I’ve spoken in anger I usually regret the way I express myself. So I’ve been waiting to feel less angry. And when I’m ready, I’ll say what I have to say,” she said.

The same month, on Thanksgiving Day, Thurman posted a photo of herself on Instagram wishing everybody except Weinstein. “Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! (Except you Harvey, and all your wicked conspirators – I’m glad it’s going slowly – you don’t deserve a bullet),” she wrote.

And now, in an exclusive interview with Maureen Dowd of The New York Times, Thurman spoke about how Weinstein had assaulted her, even to the point of threatening to derail her career. The sordid details of Weinstein’s misconduct is similar to the accounts of multiple women accusing the former Miramax head of highly inappropriate behaviour.

“It was such a bat to the head. He pushed me down. He tried to shove himself on me. He tried to expose himself. He did all kinds of unpleasant things. But he didn’t actually put his back into it and force me. You’re like an animal wriggling away, like a lizard. I was doing anything I could to get the train back on the track. My track. Not his track,” she narrates, the first of many incidents.

Thurman said she warned Weinstein: “If you do what you did to me to other people you will lose your career, your reputation and your family, I promise you.”

A spokesman for Weinstein told the Times that Thurman “very well could have said this”.

Her account also has her talking about filmmaker Quentin Tarantino and how she has all the more reason to be angry with him.

The actress narrated the car crash during the filming of Kill Bill. While she was uncomfortable doing the scene given how the car wasn’t functioning properly, Tarantino had pressured her to drive the car herself. The article features a video of her driving and then crashing into a palm tree, which led to her damaging her knees and having her in a neck brace for a while.

Thus far, according to The Guardian, Weinstein is considering legal action following her allegations in the New York Times. Ben Brafman, his attorney, said his client is “stunned and saddened by what he claims to be false accusations”.
