Actor Akshay Kumar’s 2013 Bollywood film, Special 26, will be remade in Telugu by director Harish Shankar. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, the shooting of the film, which will be produced by Harish himself, will begin in 2017.
A source told Deccan Chronicle, “Harish acquired the rights of this film for a good amount and decided to direct and produce it with his good friend, Kommalapati Krishna. They will start the Telugu remake next year.”
Special 26, a heist-thriller, is based on the infamous 1987 Opera House heist, where a group, posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officers, looted an affluent jeweller in Mumbai. The film, directed by Neeraj Pandey, was one of the biggest Bollywood hits in 2013.
Harish Shankar’s last release was Subramanyam For Sale, starring Sai Dharam Tej and Regina Cassandra, which released in 2015. He is currently occupied with the pre-production work for his next film, Duvvada Jagannadham (DJ), starring Allu Arjun. The movie was launched a couple of weeks ago. He will commence the work for the remake after he is done with DJ.
