Actress Hansika Motwani will be seen as a cop in director Kalyaan’s upcoming horror-comedy. It was speculated Ramya Krishnan also stars in the lead, but the director has refuted this as rumours.
Speaking to Silverscreen, director Kalyaan said, “Hansika is on board, but reports of talks with Ramya Krishnan are false. The film doesn’t have a second heroine.” He added, “This is the script for a horror-comedy and centres on Hansika’s character of a police commissioner. Talks are on for the male lead, and more announcements will be made after the actor is finalised.”
Actors Yogi Babu and Motta Rajendran, his regular collaborators, are also part of the cast. AH Kaashif, who composed for Kaatrin Mozhi, is on board. The film is scheduled to begin shoot on September 10.
Hansika has worked with director Kalyaan on his 2018 film Gulaebaghavali, the action-comedy co-starring Prabhu Deva in the lead. Kalyaan made his debut with Katha Solla Poren in 2016, and later released Kaathadi, starring Sai Dhanshika in the lead as a cop.
His latest comedy entertainer Jackpot, with Jyotika and Revathy also as police officers, released this month and is running successfully in theatres. The film stars Samuthirakani, Mansoor Ali Khan, Yogi Babu and Anandaraj in other roles, and was produced by Suriya’s 2D Entertainment.
Meanwhile, Hansika, who celebrates her birthday today, is gearing up for the release of her 50th film Maha, directed by UR Jameel. The film is a crime-thriller, also starring Simbu in an important role. Their portions together were shot in Goa in May. Srikanth, Karunakaran and Thambi Ramaiah play other roles. Music is composed by Ghibran, and this marks his 25th movie. Madhan Karky is the lyricist.
Hansika’s other projects include Partner directed by newcomer Manoj Dhamodharan, co-starring Aadhi in the lead, and the Telugu film Tenali Ramkrishna BA BL with actor Sundeep Kishan, directed by Nageshwara Reddy.
