The actor, in a short interview with Silverscreen, revealed that the story of the film revolved around three characters. “I play a villain named Shriram in the movie. He is a cold-blooded villain who has returned from America. It’s interesting to play this role.”

Actor Prakash Raj has been roped in to play a cop in the film.

Actor Guru Somasundaram has been carving a niche for himself in the industry. With his commendable acting and diverse roles, the Koothu-p-pattarai trained actor has set himself apart. Be it his role in his debut film, Aaranya Kaandam, or as the eccentric trainer in Jigarthanda or the latest role in Joker, the actor has nailed all his roles with aplomb. He has been cast in major roles in Bobby Simha’s Paambu Sattai, and Ashwin Kakumanu’s fantasy film – Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kathai.

Yaakkai has been in production since November 2013. The film was initially titled Idhayam, and the makers had even purchased the rights to the title from the 1991 film of the same name. For some unexplained reasons, the title was dropped. The film was put on hold when Kreshna was approached to star alongside his Yaakkai co-star Swathi in Yatchan. It was only after that project was completed, that the lead actors returned to work on Yaakkai.

The romantic thriller will likely release later this year.
