The 75th Golden Globes nominations were out on Monday, however, the number of female directors for the coveted Best Film or Best TV Show award have little representation.
Under the Best Director (Motion Picture) category, there are filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro, Martin McDonagh, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, and Steven Spielberg but female directors such as Greta Gerwig who directed Lady Bird or even Patty Jenkins for Wonder Woman did not receive any nomination. Gerwig, has instead, received a nomination for Best Screenplay.
Dee Rees, who directed the Netflix original Mudbound, has not been nominated. However, Mary J Blige, who played a crucial role in the film, has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role.

According to a Variety report, there has been a sudden push to hire and recognise female directors by the Academy in a bid to improve diversity and the addition of the massive sexual harassment scandals coming out of Hollywood lately. The report further adds that the only female director to have won a Golden Globe is Barbra Streisand, for Yentl in 1984. Female nominees have included Kathryn Bigelow, Sofia Coppola and Ava DuVernay.
The Golden Globes will take place on January 7, 2018. The awards show will be hosted by talk show host Seth Meyers, going live at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
