Devarattam, which is in the final stages of production, is said to feature Gautham Karthik as a law college student. The rural action drama is by M Muthaiah, director of Kutti Puli and Komban.
According to a report in The Times Of India, the film is set in the backdrop of Madurai. Expected to be a rural drama, the film might focus on caste issues.
Earlier, a report in News 7 had said that the film is scheduled to release after Pongal this year. A spokesperson for the film told Silverscreen, “Yes, we are working on the post production and it is in the final stage. The makers are planning to release the film sometime after Pongal. Nothing has been confirmed yet. An official announcement will be made once it is finalised.”
Devarattam also stars Soori and Manjima Mohan in lead roles. It is produced by KE Gnanavel Raja under his banner Studio Green Productions.
The film went on floors in June last year. Gnanavel Raja said in a report, “It is set in a village, and is similar to Komban. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. Announcements will be made once we confirm the actors. As for the crew, we have cinematographer Sakthi Saravanan of Mankatha and Saroja fame. Nivas Prasanna will handle the music and Praveen KL will be in charge of editing.”
Meanwhile, Gautham Karthik has signed his next venture with debutant director Arun Chandhiran, a former associate of director Ponram, of Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam fame. It is a family entertainer titled Chella Pillai.
Speaking about the film to The New Indian Express, director Arun said, “It will be similar to Rajini Murugan and Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam. I’m from Madurai, so I’ll be able to do justice to such a genre. The nativity factor will make it a film that’ll be enjoyed by all. Soori has agreed to be part of the project, and we’re in talks with other actors.”
The film will go on floors later this month. It will be completely shot in south Tamil Nadu.
