Writer, actor and music director Gangai Amaren has joined the BJP. He will most likely attend the BJP public meeting that will be held in Chennai. In an interview to The Hindu, Gangai Amaren declared that he didn’t join the BJP to go against other parties. “I hope that BJP can give shape to the cultural dreams cherished by me and my family,” he said.
He further added that “preservation of art and culture is the need of the hour”.
Gangai Amaren is not the first from Ilaiyaraaja’s family to join politics. Pavalar Varadharajan, their elder brother, was a member of the Communist party; and the brothers used to perform at party meetings.
