Speaking to Silverscreen, producer Suresh Kamatchi said that no talks were on with Gangai Amaran. He also clarified that Arjun Sarja does not star in the film. Kalyani Priyadarshan stars in the lead, he confirmed. The film will go on floors soon.

Maanadu was initially scheduled to begin in February and later in May, but it could not take off. In a tweet, the producer had dismissed reports that the project had been shelved.

The film is a political thriller and was announced by Venkat Prabhu in July last year, and a first-look poster was released. The director is best known for his films Chennai 28GoaSaroja and Mankatha.

About Maanadu, Venkat Prabhu said in an interview to Firstpost, “It’s a long-pending project. We have been talking about a possible collaboration for a long time now. STR suddenly called me one day, and I narrated the outline of the script and his character. STR liked the idea and gave his nod. The movie will be a different experience for STR. His fans will find his character exciting.”

The director is also awaiting the release of his production venture RK Nagar, starring Vaibhav, which was ready in March but could not release due to elections. His next production Kasada Thabara, directed by Chimbu Deven, has just been launched.
