Director Francis Markus, formerly an associate of Jayam Raja and RT Nesan, will make his directorial debut with a family entertainer, titled Oyee. Oyee is a village based story featuring Geethan Britto, Eesha, Sangili Murugan, and Arjunan. The film has been awarded a ‘U’ certificate, and is slated to release by end-February end or early March.
Speaking at the press meet, Francis Markus said, “We realised that the word ‘oyee’ has different connotations, and felt this would be apt for the film. As this is a heroine-centric film, we approached several leading heroines. Every one of them liked the script, but had to let go of the film as we wanted bulk dates.”
Despite being a debutant director’s film, music director Ilaiyaraaja agreed to score the music for Oyee after listening to the script. Lyricist Viveka said, “This is my first time writing lyrics for music maestro Ilaiyaraaja. To be frank, it was easy to write lyrics for Raja sir. Thanks to his experience, he can fill any gap on his own. I learned many technical things from him.” Ilaiyaraaja is best known for his melodies, but has has composed a rap song for the film, sung by Premjith.
The director said that Silambam (A Tamil Nadu sport) plays a major role in the film. Actor Geethan Britto trained in the sport to bring authenticity to the role.
