The first-look and character posters of director Abhishek Varman’s Kalank were released by Karan Johar, the co-producer of the film. As speculated, the movie looks like a period drama.
Varun Dhawan plays a character called Zafar, Aditya Roy Kapoor is Dev Chaudhry and Sanjay Dutt is Balraj Chaudhry. Alia Bhatt plays Roop, and Sonakshi Sinha plays Satya Chaudhry. The film is reportedly set in the 1940s.
Only Madhuri Dixit’s poster is yet to release.
The movie, jointly produced by Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala, marks the coming together of Dhawan and Bhatt for the fourth time. The story of Kalank was reportedly planned by Karan Johar and his father, Yash Johar, 15 years ago.

Shoot for the movie was stalled last year, because of the presence of two large snakes on the sets. A source said that the team was given a 45-day schedule, and all precautions were taken. The shoot, however, came to a halt as the snakes were huge and people thought they were poisonous. After ensuring the safety of the entire cast, the snakes were reportedly taken back to the jungle.
The movie also made news when Varun Dhawan received ‘battle scars’ while shooting battle scenes for the movie.
Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon are rumoured to be making special appearances in songs for the film. The music is composed by Pritam. It is scheduled to release on April 19.
