Fahadh Faasil’s Varathan will release on September 20 during the Muharram weekend. The film was initially scheduled to release for Onam but got delayed due to the floods that hit the State.
Directed by Amal Neerad and starring Aishwarya Lakshmi as the female lead, the movie is a thriller about a couple who comes to live at the woman’s ancestral property located in a remote neighbourhood.
The trailer showcases prying villagers and unnatural occurrences that lead to the quarrelling couple and a blood-stained knife – attention has been paid to ensure that it conveys the mood of the story rather than the content. Sushin Shyam’s gripping background is an added advantage.

Fahadh Faasil, who plays Abin, sports two looks in the movie. Apart from the bearded look from the trailer, the actor looks groomed in one of the songs picturised on him and Aishwarya Lakshmi (who plays Priya)
Littil Swayamp, whose work in Anjali Menon’s Koode was much appreciated, is the cinematographer of the movie while newcomers Suhas and Sharfu have scripted it.
The movie is being jointly produced by Fahadh Faasil and Amal Neerad, who had earlier collaborated in 2014 for Iyobinte Pushtakam. That was Faasil’s maiden production venture too. Neerad’s latest production was last year’s Mayanadhi, which he jointly produced with director Aashiq Abu.
Earlier this year, Fahadh starred in cinematographer Venu’s Carbon and was appreciated for his performance. After Varathan, the actor will be seen in Anwar Rasheed’s Trance and the Tamil film Super Deluxe starring Vijay Sethupati and Samantha and directed by Thiagarajan Kumararaja of Aaranya Kaandam fame.
