Fahadh Faasil And Nazriya Naazim In The Running For Kerala State Film Awards

Fahadh Faasil and Nazriya Nazim have made it to the final list of the Kerala State Film Awards and are in the running for the best actor and actress, reports Manorama.

Fahadh Faasil has been nominated for his performance in Carbon, Njan Prakashan and Varathan while Nazriya Nazim secured a spot in the final list for her turn in Koode.

Some of Fahadh Faasil’s fellow contenders include Mohanlal for his performance in Odiyan and Kayamkulam Kochunni, Joju George for his performance in Joseph, Jayasurya for his turn as a transgender woman in Njan Marykutty (and the biopic Captain) and Tovino Thomas for his portrayal of a wrongly persecuted man in Oru Kuprasiddha Payyan.

Nazriya Nazim’s competitors include Manju Warrier(Aami, Odiyan), Urvashi (Ente Ummante Peru and Aravindante Athithikal) and Aishwarya Lekshmi (Varathan).

Earlier the Award jury was faced with the dilemma of including Carbon and Aami in the competition. Cinematographer turned director Venu’s Carbon has been edited by his wife Bina Paul who is the vice chairperson of the academy while Aami’s director Kamal is the chairman of the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy.

As per law, it has been decided that these films will compete in different categories. However, these officials will not be considered for the awards in their respective categories.

Incidentally Nazariya and Fahad are married to each other. It will be a first of its kind happening if the duo manages to win at the awards which is scheduled to be announced on Friday.

On a total 104 films have been submitted to the academy out of which 100 are feature films and four are children’s movies.

According to On Manorama, some of the popular contenders are Olu (Shaji N Karun), Pengalila (TV Chandran), Roudram (Jayaraj), A Sunday (Syamaprasad), Njan Prakashan (Sathyan Anthikkad), Oru Kuprasidda Payyan (Madhupal), Koode (Anjaly Menon), Sudani From Nigeria (Zacharia), Aravindante Athithikal (M Mohanan), Kayamkulam Kochunni (Rosshan Andrrews), Chola (Sanalkumar Sasidharan), Silencer (Priyanandanan), Ka Bodyscapes (Jayan Cheriyan), Prana (VK Prakash), Varathan (Amal Neerad), Odiyan (Sreekumar Menon), Queen (Dijo Jose Antony), Joseph (M Padmakumar), Theevandi (Fellini), Kuttanpillayude Sivarathri (Jean Markose) and Njan Marykutty (Ranjith Sankar).
