Drishyam Tamil Remake Stalled

Drishyam’s Tamil remake starring Kamal Haasan has been put on hold owing to some legal issues. A man from Kerala has claimed that the blockbuster Malayalam movie, helmed by Jeethu Joseph, was inspired by his novel Oru Mazhakkalath and has approached a court in Ernakulam to resolve the issue. After hearing the petition, the court has placed a temporary ban on the project. It is to be noted that Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor has also issued a legal notice to Jeethu Joseph alleging similarities between Drishyam and the novel The Devotion of Suspect X, for which she holds the film rights.

When reached for comment, the director denied the allegations. “Ekta Kapoor is misinformed and is pursuing the wrong person. In art, it is natural to find similarities here and there. It is totally co-incidental. Where is it written that two or more persons cannot think the same way?” However, the director refused to comment on the temporary ban as it is an ‘ongoing legal matter’. The spokesperson for the Tamil remake’s production house told us that ‘all possible options were being considered to resolve the issue and begin filming soon’.
