Members of Telugu film fraternity are pleading with the government to slap two-fold entertainment tax on Tamil films that are being dubbed in Telugu. The demand has surfaced once again after Suriya’s latest release, Rakshasudu, the dubbed version of Massu Engira Masilamani, released in nearly 400 theatres in Andhra and Telangana.

While entertainment tax for dubbed films in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka is pegged at 30% and 40% respectively, it’s still 20 % percent in the two Telugu speaking states. Hence, most distributors and producers, who had burnt their fingers by releasing dubbed films such as Uttama Villain and Yentha Vaadu Gaani, are requesting the entertainment tax be doubled. According to a source, distributors who released dubbed films such as Uttama Villain, Yentha Vaadu Gaani, Rakshasudu and Lingaa lost about INR 20 crore.
