Directors GVM, Vetrimaaran And Balaji Mohan Team Up For New TV Series

Directors Gautham Menon, Vetrimaaran and Balaji Mohan will come together to produce and direct a Tamil television series. Although there’s been a free flow of directors from the small screen to silver screen and vice-vera, this is the first time three ace directors will be teaming up to work on a single project. According to reports, the trio plan to handle themes that are relevant to the present generation in the series.

Earlier, a similar attempt was made by director Gautham Menon to launch a detective series with actor Parthiepan in the lead role. But the project did not materialise.

The transition from silver screen to small screen is a commonly observed phenomenon in Hollywood. Acclaimed director David Fincher, director of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Social Network, have directed few episodes for the hit series, House of Cards. Other award winning filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh, Cary Fukunaga, Guillermo Del Toro have all made the transition to the small screen recently as well.

Not just directors, but actors have also been actively participating in this shift. After the humongous success of the hit TV-series True Detective starring Academy award winner, Matthew McConaughey, even actors have begun to look for acting offers in the small screen.

The Indian film industry, though, is yet to see a similar transition. This attempt by the trio of directors, marks a significant step towards that direction.

Meanwhile, all three directors are occupied with their big screen projects. Director Gautham Menon is currently busy with post-production work on the Simbu starrer, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, which is scheduled to release on September 9. Director Vetrimaaran is busy shooting his three-part gangster movie, Vada Chennai starring Dhanush while director Balaji Mohan is reportedly involved in pre-production work on his next film.
