Director V Sekar Arrested For Idol Smuggling; Denies Involvement

Kollywood director V Sekar was arrested this Wednesday by the Economic Offences Wing of the CBI for his alleged involvement in an idol smuggling racket. The racket involved the theft and attempted sale of eight idols from three temples. The Producers Council subsequently issued a statement on Thursday stating that V Sekar was innocent.

A joint press release from the Producer Council, Nadigar Sangam, the Directors Union, and the FEFSI stated that directors Vikraman and RK Selvamani had met V Sekar at the Puzhal Central Prison, where Sekar denied having any involvement in the issue. Sekar also denied confessing to any crimes, contrary to reports in several newspapers.

V Sekar is best known for directing middle-class family dramas in the 1990-2000 decade. His films include Varavu Ettana Selvu Pathana, Koodi Vazhndhal Kodi Nanmai, and Viraluketha Veekam.
