Noted cinematographer Priyan passed away in Chennai last night following a cardiac arrest. While the industry mourns Priyan’s loss, director Hari who has worked with Priyan on many films, said that he has lost a brother (udanpiravaa sagodharar).
Director Hari and Priyan have worked together in 13 films. Right from Hari’s debut film Tamizh to Saamy, Kovil, Arul, Ayya, Aaru, Thamirabharani, Vel, Seval, the Singam series, Poojai; Priyan was roped in for Saamy sequel as well.
“He is more of a brother to me than just a cinematographer. He stood by me like an elder brother during my highs and lows in life. His loss is very painful and I am still coming terms with it,” Hari, who is currently in Virudhunagar at Priyan’s house, told Silverscreen.

“We have worked together for 17 years. He has handled the camera for all my films, except for one film – he was busy with Vijay’s Velayudham then. He was very kind and we shared a good rapport which is why we were able to deliver good products all these years. I always make sure that my films stick to the schedule, without Priyan’s support this wouldn’t have been possible,” he added.
Hari further said, “While working on Tamizh, he would approach production companies to get me a second film. At the time, he was a leading cinematographer, but he believed in my talent and played a key role in my career.”
The Tamil film industry has lost a talented, experienced cinematographer, he added.
