William Shakespeare’s Macbeth has been adapted for screen for the first time in Tamil cinema with Pagaivanuku Arulvai. The film is directed by Anees of Thirumanam Enum Nikkah (2014) fame.
Announcing that the title logo will be unveiled on December 8 at a grand event in Switzerland, director Anees said, “Ananya Rajendran (the lyricist) will be hosting the music-based reality show “Thanga Tamizh Kural” for IBC Tamil channel on that day. We are so happy to unveil the title logo of this film amidst huge crowds, which will have Tamil participants from 120 countries.”
Produced by Purple Frames, the film will have nine-year-old London-based lyricist Ananya Rajendra Kumar making her debut. Speaking about roping in Ananya Rajendra Kumar, director Anees said: “For a particular song, we felt some childlike freshness and innocence in thought was needed, and so, we decided to find a kid to write the lyrics. The person who immediately came to our minds was the YouTube sensation Ananya Rajendra Kumar. Her oratory proficiency isn’t the only reason; her passion for Tamil literature and her writing skills are extraordinary.
The film will feature actor Saran Sanjai (currently shooting for Suseenthiran’s Angelina) and Kannada actor Satish Ninasam of Lucia fame in lead roles. Cinematography will be handled by Shanmugha Sundaram of 96 fame and editing will be done by Mu Kasi Viswanathan. The official announcement regarding the other cast and crew will be made sometime soon.
Anees’s directorial debut – Thirumanam Enum Nikkah – featured Jai and Nazriya Nazim in the lead, with music by Ghibran. The composer was recently felicitated with the Confluence Excellence Award in Music at the British Parliament, Palace of Westminster, London. He had last composed for Ramkumar’s psychological crime thriller Ratsasan, and is currently working on several films like Vikram’s Kadaram Kondan, Hansika’s Maha, Madhavan’s upcoming film, Jiiva’s film, Imsai Arasan 24am Pulikesi, Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai and Lakshmi Ramakrishnan’s House Owner.
