Dileep, who has been accused of orchestrating the sexual assault and kidnapping of a Malayalam actress, has reportedly been granted permission to travel abroad for the inaugural of his restaurant in Dubai. He had surrendered his passport after he was given bail in October. The 49-year-old actor was arrested on July 10 as part of the conspiracy behind the abduction of the actress in February this year. He was lodged at the Aluva sub-jail for the past 85 days.

S Durga to be screened at IFFI 2017

Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s S Durga (previously titled Sexy Durga) will finally be screened at the ongoing International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The film was barred from being screened on November 13 along with the Marathi film Nude.

Jury members of the festival — Hari Vishwanath, Satarupa Sanyal, Ruchi Narain, Suresh Heblikar, Gopi Desai and film critic Sachin Chatte — wrote to the Information and Broadcast Minister Smriti Irani on the removal of these two films from the festival.

In the letter, they wrote how these films were “removed without any intimation, discussion or recourse to the jury which has the final say according to the Indian Panorama regulations”.

Sasidharan took to Facebook to express his happiness over the screening of his film. The Malayalam movie is the first Indian film in 23 years to win laurels since the Tiger Awards were introduced at International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR).

Rajkummar Rao and Smriti Irani roast each other at IFFI 2017

Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani at the International Film Festival of India in Goa said that a minister who can a take a joke is an example that the current government is tolerant.

Irani was referring to the joke that actor Rajkummar Rao — who hosted the opening ceremony — made on her surname by drawing a connection with Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi’s home country.

“Rajkummar, I would like the whole country to know that you made fun of Irani – a minister – which shows what a tolerant government we are. And I am also expressing this, because I don’t want anyone to say that ‘BJP walon ne actor ki taang todh di’ (BJP workers broke the actor’s leg),” she quipped.
