The poster of Kanaa which translates into ‘dream’ in English comes with the tagline ‘dream big’. Even though it’s not a biopic, the film claims to be about the travails of a girl who dreams of making it big in the cricketing world. Speaking to The Times of India, the director said, “The film is a first of its kind considering that it is completely based on women’s cricket. It narrates the story of Kausalya, a girl from a village, who makes it big in the national circuit.”

Aishwarya Rajesh is the protagonist. Her childhood phase will be played by Monica. As part of the movie, Rajesh trained for 60 days in cricket. Rajesh will soon be seen in Vikram-starrer Saamy Square where she will be essaying the character that Trisha played in the original film and Vetrimaran’s Dhanush-starrer Vada Chennai.

Kamraj was also quoted as saying, “The film belongs to the sports genre which has a format. I could have tweaked it had I been eyeing for a thriller or mystery with a sports backdrop. But this is purely a sports drama and the screenplay has been developed accordingly.”
