Cricket World Cup, Wimbledon Finals: Celebrities Tweet

The Cricket World Cup finals clashed with Wimbledon finals on Sunday, in what was one of the most thrilling evenings for sports lovers around the world.

England and New Zealand finished with 241 runs each to tie at the World Cup Cricket finals. They scored the same 15 runs in the Super Over too, and the higher number of  boundaries by England won them the title.

The Wimbledon finals, also held in London at the same time, saw Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic playing upto 12-12 in the final set. For the first time a winner was decided by a tie-breaker and it was also the longest finals so far. Djokovic won the 13th tie breaker set and his fifth title.

People around the world watched both matches, tweeting about it live. Celebrities such as Siddharth, Taapsee Pannu, Anurag Kashyap, Vikram Prabhu, Madhavan and others tweeted every few minutes.

Actor Dhanush, a fan of Rafael Nadal, has a poster of of the tennis player lifting the Wimbledon trophy as his pinned tweet. Nadal lost to Roger Federer in the semi-finals this year.

Director Anurag Kashyap said it was a memorable day and great fight to finish, and said filmmaking was nothing compared to playing the game.

Taapsee Pannu and Siddharth also posted a series of tweets. Taapsee said, “England won the world cup, New Zealand won our hearts.”

Actor Madhavan brought in ISRO’s Chandrayaan 2 launch that was to take off at 2.51 am today, but had to be aborted due to technical glitches.

He said, “My heart goes out to NZ team, what an effort and game by them. But the gods were with England. What a player this Stokes is. Extremely superhuman grit by England… Now one more to go. Your turn ISRO.”

Editor TS Suresh, director Venkat Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Farhan Akhtar and Raveena Tandon also tweeted about the matches.

 

Model and TV host Bhavna said it was Ben Stokes batting that made the difference in the end.

Last week, Karthi Subbaraj, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Dhanush, Vignesh Shivan, Rakul Preet Singh and also Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and others in Bollywood tweeted about the India vs New Zealand semi-final match.
