Dha Dha 87 is a romantic-action drama, with Kamal Haasan’s brother Charu Haasan starring alongside Keerthy Suresh’s grandmother, Saroja. Comedian Janagaraj plays an ex-military man, and his son Naveen too has an important role in the film.
Three young stars – Jeni Pallavi, Anu Lavanya, Anand Pandi, made their Tamil debut as the lead actors of Dha Dha 87. The film was simultaneously dubbed in Hindi, and produced by Kalai Cinemas. Leander Lee Marty was the music composer. Cinematography was by Raja Pandi, and editing by Sri Vatsan.
Talking about offering Charu Haasan the role, the director told The News Minute, “He’s the only actor in this age group. The story also needed someone who could carry off being a don. I loved his performance in Thalapathy. The way he stood up to Mammootty’s character showed he had ‘gethu’. A person who stands up to a veeran (brave person) is a maveeran (great hero).”
87-year-old Charu Haasan made his comeback as a local don who devises plans with his gang. Saroja, 80, played his wife in the film. Their presence weighed out the young actors’ action scenes, fights and killing. The film released on March 1, but didn’t get the expected number of screens in theaters. So, the makers are planning a re-release this summer. The director also said recently that they have applied for a National Award for the film.
