Hollywood actor Brendan Fraser (The Mummy franchise) has joined the cast of a new film based in India, titled The Field, about an Indian land mafia family. The film also stars Indian actors Ronit Roy and Radhika Apte, and marks the directorial debut of California-based Indian origin producer Rohit Karn Batra.
Fraser, who is replacing actor Ray Liotta, will play the role of Charu, an American expat gun runner, “whose illicit dealings with the Indian underworld wedges him in the middle of the family implosion”.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ray Liotta was the team’s first choice, but after script changes, Brendan Fraser was picked as the best fit for the role.
Meanwhile, Fraser arrived in Mumbai on 13 June. The film begins shooting on 17 June (Friday) in New Delhi.

Rohit Karn Batra, who owns a production company called ‘Invisible Man Pictures’, was involved in the 2012 film The Roundabouts. The film won the jury prize for Best Short Film at the 2012 Palm Beach International Film Festival.
A bilingual film, The Field will have a mix of Hindi and Tamil dialogues. Veteran Bollywood actors Prem Chopra and Neeraj Kabi (Talvar) are also a part of the cast.
