Box Office Report: Tumhari Sulu Crosses The Rs 30-Crore Mark; New Releases Have Average Openings

Annadurai (Tamil)

Directed by G Srinivasan, the film that stars Vijay Antony is a social drama mixed with romance. This is a story of twin brothers, Annadurai and Thambidurai. Annadurai is a nice man but an alcoholic. The film looks to take on the social issue surrounding alcohol addiction via this character. The other twin, Thambidurai, is a PT master.

Annadurai has Diana Champika and Mahima as female leads and Radha Ravi and Kaali Venkat in supporting roles. The film is also being released in Telugu as Indrasena.

The film has reportedly made Rs 1.5 crores across Tamil Nadu on its first day. In the Tirunalveli and Kanyakumari region, the film has made around Rs 11 lakhs, with 45 per cent of occupancy at the theatres. The film released in 400 theatres in India.

Thiruttu Payale 2 (Tamil)

Susi Ganeshan’s Thiruttu Payale 2 features Bobby Simha, Amala Paul, and Prasanna in the lead. The thriller is a sequel to the first film Thiruttu Payale that released in 2006. Apart from its lead cast, the film also stars Sanam Shetty, Vivekh and Robo Shankar in supporting roles. Vidyasagar is the composer for this one, and the film is being bankrolled by AGS Entertainment.

While reports suggest that it made Rs 1.7 crores, official reports are yet to declare the same.

Firangi (Hindi)

Starring comedian Kapil Sharma, the film is a period action-comedy drama film set in the year 1920, directed by Rajiev Dhingra. The film also Ishita Dutta and Monica Gill. Primarily shot in Punjab and Rajasthan, Sharma is also one of the producers of the film.

The film opened to Rs 2.10 crore on its opening day in India.

Tumhari Sulu (Hindi)

Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film stars Vidya Balan as Sulochana aka Sulu, a homemaker who becomes an RJ. Also starring theatre actor Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia, and RJ Mallishka. The film has been received well by critics and audience, with an even better performance at the box office.

On its opening day, the film that released on November 17, earned Rs 2.87 crores in India. Now, over two weeks later, the film has crossed the Rs 30-crore mark. While in total, the movie has earned Rs 31.09 crores in the domestic market, it earned Rs 52 lakhs and Rs 1.30 crores on Friday and Saturday respectively.
