Box Office Report: Tiger Zinda Hai Expected To Cross Rs 100 Crores Soon; Telugu Releases Fare Well In International Markets

It’s been a battle of so many films at the box office, but most fail in comparison to Salman Khan’s film. Tiger Zinda Hai, that released just few days before the Christmas weekend, is doing well not just at the Indian box office, but international too. So is Velaikkaran, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara, and Fahadh Faazil.

Here’s a look at the performance of some of the releases:

Tiger Zinda Hai (Hindi)

This Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer opened to a massive Rs 33.75 crores on Friday in India. It managed to do  better abroad, minting Rs 1.01 crore on the day of its release in Australia and Rs 38.54 lakhs in New Zealand. Overall, this Ali Abbas Zafar film has made over Rs 69 crores in India, and is expected to exceed the Rs 100-crore mark by today.

Velaikkaran (Tamil)

This Mohan Raja film stars Sivakarthikeyan who sheds his Remo image to take on the greedy CEOs. Velaikkaran also marks the Tamil debut of Fahadh Faasil. According to Sify, the film is expected to have crossed Rs 9 crores, making Rs 89 lakhs in Chennai alone, all on its opening day.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is also doing pretty well in the international market, having made Rs 57.58 lakhs on its first two days in the USA.

Sakka Podu Podu Raja (Tamil)

Santhanam, who started off as a comedian having made his debut in STR’s Manmadhan, has now ventured towards acting as the lead in films, taking up roles that are less comic and more heroic.

The film is directed by Sethuraman and is produced by VTV Ganesh. The film’s lead heroine is Vaibhavi Shandilya, and also stars Vivek, Narayan Lucky, Robo Sankar, Sampath Raja, and several others. Music is composed by actor STR, who gave a very dramatic speech at the audio launch of the film early this month.

The film’s box office collections are not out yet, but several actors from the film attest that there’s a lot of word-of-mouth prompting cinema-goers to go for the film.

Other films:

Hello (Telugu)

This Akhil Akkineni and Kalyani Priyadarshan starrer has been faring well at the international box office. Its performance in the domestic market isn’t out yet, but according to Rentrak, it has minted Rs 3.29 crore this weekend in the US.

Middle Class Abbayi (Telugu)

The film stars Nani, Sai Pallavi, and Bhumika Chawla. According to the Hindustan Times, the film is said to have grossed over Rs 15 crore on the first day worldwide, making it the biggest ever opening in Nani’s career. The film has been faring equally well at the international box office, having made a total Rs 4.12 crores in the US.
