According to producer Shobu Yarlagadda, SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali will soon begin its journey at the international festival circuits, beginning with South Korea’s Busan International Film Festival. The special international version of the film has been edited by Vincent Tabaillon, and is reportedly 20 minutes shorter. Tabaillon is known for editing films like The Incredible Hulk (2008), Clash Of The Titans (2010), and Now You See Me (2013). Baahubali has become one of India’s biggest box-office successes, and has grossed over Rs.600 crore worldwide. The film stars Rana Daggubati, Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannaah Bhatia.

In a recent interview with Forbes, Rajamouli stressed that Baahubali was a product of Indian history and myths, countering perceptions that he had drawn on the biblical stories of Moses and the Greek legend of Hercules in the film. He said that epics had similarities across cultures, and gave the example of both Moses and Karna being abandoned in a basket by their respective mothers. He stressed that he had nothing against ‘aping’ western films, but wanted to utilise the ‘treasure trove’ that existed in the epics of India.

The 10-day long Busan International Film Festival is an annual Asian festival which focuses on new films and first-time directors, especially from Asian countries. The 2015 edition begins on October 1 and ends on October 10. Three Tamil films have also been nominated in different categories for the festival – Oh Kadhal Kanmani, Orange Mittai and Radiopetti. Mani Ratnam’s Oh Kadhal Kanmani focuses on live-in relationships and love (and has a Silverscore of 10), while Radiopetti is a story about an old man and his radio. Other Indian films at the festival include Meghna Gulzar’s Guilty (Talvar) and Neeraj Ghaywan’s Fly Away Home (Masaan). Guilty revolves around the widely publicised murder of 14-year old Aarushi, while Masaan is a love story set on the banks of the Ganges.
