AR Rahman’s Hockey World Cup Anthem Features Shah Rukh Khan, Nayanthara And Others

Jai Hind India, the official anthem for the Hockey World Cup 2018 has released. Shot by Ravi Varman and featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Nayanthara, the video is directed by AR Rahman who last donned the director’s hat in 1997 for his song Vande Mataram.

Penned by Gulzar, the song is sung by Rahman and Nakul Abyankar, and features a rap by MC Heam. Percussionist Sivamani, who has also worked on the song, is featured in the video. Along with the players of the Indian Hockey Team featured in the video are singers Neeti Mohan, Shweta Mohan, Sasha Tirupathi, Shweta Pandit and Harshdeep.

The audio song was released by the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on November 23 at his residence in the presence of AR Rahman. In an earlier press release Rahman had said, “The song has given me the privilege of singing in India’s honour as we get ready to host the Hockey World Cup in Odisha next month.”

Both Shah Rukh Khan and the AR Rahman were part of the opening ceremony of the Hockey World Cup 2018 on November 27. The fourteenth edition of the competition began on November 28 and runs till December 16.

According to a FirstPost report, the officials of the event have left no stone unturned in their bid to put the event on the global map. Sundeep Misra, the Odisha government’s media advisor for the World Cup, says over 200 journalists have been accredited, of whom more than 40 are foreigners, and more are due to attend the knockout games. The FIH has secured television coverage in 194 countries, a 150 per cent increase over 2014.

During the opening five days, the event was attended by the ambassadors of Argentina and Belgium, the French consul general in Kolkata and diplomats from China, Great Britain, Ireland and Argentina.
