AndhaDhun’s Trailer Has All The Makings Of A Sriram Raghavan Thriller

The trailer for AndhaDhun, the new film by Sriram Raghavan, starts with Ayushman Khurrana’s character playing the piano with his back facing the camera. A text reading ‘a blind piano player’ appears on either side of Khurrana like a signboard.

Not everything is as it seems in this trailer. The video showcases a series of situations that give the viewer second thoughts about Khurrana’s physical condition. One gets the feeling that the character is not really blind. Radhika Apte, who plays the love of his life in the film, seems to be labouring under this suspicion as well.

Adding to the viewers’ suspicion is Khurrana’s quirky sense of humour. In one memorable scene, he goes on to describe ‘the benefits of being blind.’

Firmly stamping his signature throughout the trailer, Raghavan employs his trademark dark humour, which makes its presence felt in situations like the one where a character upon seeing a bird poop on Khurrana, responds with, “Oh shit!!!!”

Shortly thereafter a murder takes places and the trailer shifts gears to move to the thriller domain. Perhaps owing to the protagonist’s profession, the trailer carries a bunch of musical pieces for the background score.

Also making her presence felt is actor Tabu. She cooks crab meat, and tells her amorous suitor that the dish is known to be an aphrodisiac. “Don’t ask me the spelling,” she playfully warns him. “I can help you with the meaning, however.” she says.

Raghavan who is known for his thrillers like Agent Vinod, Johnny Gaddar and Ek Hasina Thi, previously directed Badlapur in 2015. He chose Varun Dhawan, whose filmographylargely consisted of commercial potboilers for the role of the male lead in Badlapur.

For AndhaDhun, Raghavan takes on Ayushmann Khurrana, an actor who has largely been a part of light hearted comedies thus far.

Same goes with the casting of Radhika Apte, who is seen dancing in the trailer. The actor is known for her intense roles.

Music has been composed by Amit Trivedi while K.U. Mohanan wields the camera. The film releases on October 5.
