Amid fierce backlash from the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) on Monday agreed to hold a meeting and iron out differences that have cropped up ever since the organisation decided to reinstate actor Dileep – a main accused in the case of sexual assault and abduction of an actress in February 2017. While the association has agreed to meet at the end of July, no date has been finalized as yet.
Meanwhile, in an official statement issued through the Facebook account of Women In Cinema Collective (WCC) on Tuesday morning, WCC mentioned that although AMMA’s executive committee expressed readiness to address the issue over a meeting, there has been no update on who would be a part of the meeting or when it would be held.

The WCC also thanked the members and colleagues from the Malayalam film industry and other industries, student groups, friends in media, women journalists’ group, other collectives. They stated that it was because of their support that this issue can no more be belittled as a ‘usual internal conflict in a cine union.’ This is a fight to make the film industry a democratic women-friendly space, the post read.
