Amitabh Bhachchan will play Bheeshma, the elder statesman and senior father figure of the epic Mahabharatha, in the cinematic adaptation of Jnanpith award-winner MT Vasudevan Nair’s Randamoozham.
Both The Hindu and the Times Of India carried the news, but The Hindu, with its usual reserve and journalistic skepticism, said only that talks were on with the Big B, while the Times Of India went right out and confirmed that Bachchan will indeed play Beeshma.
Randamoozham (The Second Turn) is a retelling of the Mahabharatha through the perspective of Bheema. A literary heavyweight, the book was written by MT Vasudevan Nair. Sreekumar Menon – an ad filmmaker – is adapting the book for the screen, with Mohanlal playing Bheema.
Randamoozham will be a multilingual film made on a budget of approximately Rs. 700 crores. It will be shot in Malayalam, Tamil, English, and Hindi, and dubbed into other Indian languages. Sreekumar Menon and the production team are putting together a star cast from several film industries, as well as a technical crew comprising of Academy Award winning technicians.
Mohanlal and Amitabh Bhachchan last acted together in the film Kandahar (2010).
