According to a report, Amala’s role will be crucial to the series. The source said, “Amala will be seen in an interesting avatar and that’s one of the reasons she agreed to be a part of it. The shoot will begin by the end of December and other cast members will be announced officially soon.”

The series was launched recently, and is said to be titled High Priestess. Actor Sunainaa is best known for her role in Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi’s Vijay Antony-starrer Kaali. She made her entry into the web-series world with her recent Nila Nila Odi Vaa, a vampire-based romantic comedy thriller, hosted by Viu, and directed by JS Nandhini. She also recently wrapped up shoot for Halitha Shameem’s Sillu Karupetti.

Talking about her role in the upcoming series, Sunainaa told Cinema Express that her character was ‘bold and intense’. “Since this is a web-series, it will be definitely intense without anything being toned down. It is an emotional character. In fact, I told Pushpa I wanted to be part of the project and kind of forced my way in.”

She also said several Tamil actors will be cast in the series, and she is just one of them, but Amala’s is a unique role. The series will mark Amala Akkineni’s comeback to the Tamil industry after her lead role in the film Karpura Mullai in 1991. She also acted in two Malayalam films – Ente Sooryaputhrikku and  Ulladakkam that year. She stopped acting after her marriage to actor Nagarjuna in 1992.

In 2012, she made her come back to cinema with a supporting role in the Telugu film, Life is Beautiful. She also played supporting roles in Hindi films like Listen, Amaya (2013) and Hamari Adhuri Kahani(2015). Amala was then a part of Uyirmei, a Zee Tamizh series in which she played a doctor. Most recently, she starred in the Malayalam film C/O Saira Banu in 2017. She played an advocate in the film.
