Ajith Kumar’s Next May Be Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Mankatha 2’

Ajith Kumar may sign his next film with Venkat Prabhu. The director, who is awaiting the release of the Vaibhav-starrer RK Nagar, confirmed the news in an interview recently. This left Ajith fans and others speculating if the film would be a sequel to their 2011 film Mankatha, or a different project.

The director told India Glitz, “It’s too early to talk but something good will work out, and when it does we’ll make an announcement.”

When asked about rumours regarding his upcoming films with big stars, he said he had stories in mind for a film starring both Ajith Kumar and Vijay, and another film with Ajith alone. “These are wishes I have. We must find producers, the actors must agree, fans should be satisfied with the story, there are a lot of responsibilities. But it’ll happen at some point,” he said.

Last month, the director posted a picture of his meeting with Ajith Kumar, which went viral on social media. “And this happened…….. good night,” he tweeted, leaving fans wondering if it was a casual meeting or he was hinting that they would soon work on a project.

The director said in the interview, “Once things finalise we will make a concrete announcement.”

Venkat Prabhu is currently gearing up for RK Nagar. The film has been produced by him, and was scheduled to release on April 12 but had to be postponed due to elections. He said that unlike what has been speculated, this is not a political thriller but a story set during the RK Nagar re-elections that happened after Jayalalithaa’s death. “Everyone knows RK Nagar is Amma’s constituency, and the re-elections which happened gave us the idea for the film. The story happens during this time, but it’s not a political film like LKG or Uriyadi.”

He also said, “It so happened that the film is releasing right before elections. However, it’s a good thing because we feel the film will reach audiences better during elections.” The film is written and directed by Saravana Ranjan of Vadacurry fame. Venkat Prabhu’s brother actor Premji has worked on the music for the film.

Meanwhile, Venkat Prabhu’s Maanadu with STR will go on floors after the completion of RK Nagar and Party. As reported earlier, he director is currently busy with the pre-production work for Maanadu. And while he has not revealed much about the film, he said that Simbu will be seen in a new avatar, “Like what Gautham Vasudev Menon did with Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa, STR will play a completely different role. It is a political thriller, and like the title suggests, the film happens in a maanadu.”
