Aiyaary Gets U/A Certificate, Set To Release On February 16

Aiyaary, an espionage thriller that was set to clash with PadMan on February 9, has now shifted its release date to February 16. The film has been cleared with a U/A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The director of the film, Neeraj Pandey, made the announcement last evening.

The film’s release date has been shifting since January. Initially slated for a January 26 release, clashing with Akshay Kumar’s A Muruganantham biopic PadMan. Soon enough, the team averted the clash by shifting the release date to February 9. But after Padmaavat‘s filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali requested team PadMan to let his epic drama release solo, PadMan too shifted to February 9. Needless to say, this added extra pressure on Aiyaary team, which has a star cast of Sidharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh, Manoj Bajpai, and Pooja Chopra.

With February 16 as its release date, the film is unlikely to clash with any major films apart from Dil Junglee starring Taapsee Pannu and Saqib Saleem.

Aiyaary revolves around two Army officers having completely different views, yet right in their own way. It’s based on a real-life story.

Sidharth Malhotra plays Major Jai Bakshi, who is in surveillance and listens in on conversations that involves tax payers money and cheating people off. Turns out Jai is a swindler and one of the rotten eggs from the Indian Army, however, his story is kept under wraps so that the honour of the Army is not tainted. Thus begins a chase when Colonel Abhay Singh pursues Jai.

The trailer shows exotic locations, intense phone conversations, and lots of sleek guns and chases.
