Malayalam actress Sharanya Sasi has contributed a part of the funds raised for treating her brain tumor to the Kerala Chief Minister’s fund for flood relief.

She shared on social media that she transferred Rs 10,000 for relief work and also urged others to contribute.

Heavy rains and floods have caused havoc in parts of Kerala with the death toll increasing to 141 people, as per an ANI report on Monday. Several people have been injured and are missing, and houses have been washed off. Evacuations efforts have been on. Many districts in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are also severely affected.

Sharanya, a native of Kerala, was in the news last month when she was critical and a call for financial help was put out. Her colleague, actress Seema G Nair had said that Sharanya underwent her seventh surgery for brain tumour, and it was a complicated one. She said every small contribution will matter, and added, “Seven years ago, Sharanya was affected by brain tumour. After that, every year during September and October, she would get critical but would fight and come back to life. On June 10, we admitted her to the Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute in Thiruvananthapuram, and surgery was performed the next day.”

Malayalam activist Sooraj Paalakkaran also put out a plea, and a fundraising campaign on milaap.org was created. She is currently recovering from the surgery.

She is a popular TV and film actress in the south, who started her career with the Malayalam serial Sooryodayam, aired on Doordarshan. She has acted in the Telugu serial Swathi, and in 2010, she starred as the lead in her first Tamil film Pachai Engira Kaathu. Chacko Randaman (2006) was her Malayalam film debut.

Sharanya rose to fame with the award-winning Malayalam serial Karuthamuthu (2014). This was remade in Tamil as Bharathi Kannamma (2019). She also acted in the Mohanlal-starrer Chotta Mumbai, and in ThalappavuBombay March 12 and Ann Mariya Kalippilanu.
