Padmavati Row: Arbaaz Khan, Shabana Azmi, And Prasoon Joshi Weigh In

Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Vasundhara Raje has asked Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani to not release Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati if certain changes are not made.

With threats against Bhansali and Deepika Padukone increasing, CBFC’s chairman Prasoon Joshi broke his silence on the matter. He reportedly lashed out at the film’s team for not specifying if Padmavati is based on fiction or true incident or true story or mythology or epic or devotional or biographical.

Padmavati‘s application came up this week for review. Makers admit the paper work isn’t complete. The disclaimer whether the film is a work of fiction or historical was left blank and on being asked to provide important documents, they targeted CBFC for ‘looking the other way’. It is surprising,” Joshi said in a statement.

Meanwhile, celebrities from Bollywood have extended support to the film’s team. Actor Arbaaz Khan spoke about the issue during a promotional event for his upcoming film Tera Intezar.

“This is a democratic country where we have the freedom of speech and expression. If anyone has any objection with anything, then there is a lawful way of doing it. You cannot release a film without CBFC certificate. They decide which film is proper for public consumption, so we should let them decide first and after CBFC has passed the film, it’s up to the audience whether they want to see it or not,” he said.

Actress Shabana Azmi, too, spoke on the lines of freedom speech on Twitter.
