A year after Smithika’s video released and memes flooded the internet, she is still popular and loved by people. In the video that went viral, she was seen admitting to her mother that whatever she did was wrong but there was no need to scold or hit her when she could have spoken to her with kindness. Her mother says she was left with no choice, but Smithika repeats, “Thappu ma… adikaama gunama sollanum. (No mother, you’re wrong. You could have said it with care.)”

Her mother later revealed that Smithika had come back home from school that day without finishing her lunch which irritated her, but the mood lightened after Smithika’s explanation. Her mother had recorded this video to later show it to her husband who was at work. It soon circulated everywhere.

Smithika was interviewed by news channels and her mother got many calls from abroad asking to speak to her. She went on to become the poster-child for advice against corporal punishment, advising teachers against punishments in schools, and many memes.

Most recently, the video resurfaced during Shivakumar’s selfie controversy when the actor casually pushed away a mobile phone from a man’s hand because he was trying to take a selfie without permission. The incident happened twice. Among the many memes that went viral, some said, “If you don’t want a selfie, vaaila gunama sollanum, don’t throw away the mobile.”

The Nenjamundu Nermaiyundu Odu Raja songs and trailer released on June 3. ‘Internet Pasanga‘ from the album has already become popular. The trailer shows that NNOR is a satire, centering on YouTube pranksters played by Rio Raj and RJ Vigneshkanth. The film has music by Shabir, cinematography by Senthil Kumar and will release on June 14. Sivakarthikeyan said at the launch, “There are a lot of YouTubers who have been reaching out to people across the world with their ideas, and doing it very creatively. So I wanted to collaborate with them.”

He also announced that his third production venture will be directed Arun Prabhu of Aruvi fame.
